PARTY FOR A PURPOSE, How It All Began

We are an established 501(c)(3) public charity which was founded in Denver, Colorado by young professionals as a way to provide young professionals with a fun way to give back. Our original motto, “Party for a Purpose. BE the Difference!” was how we began, throwing parties and donating the money to local charities. As we began our path towards being a nonprofit charity, we found that resources on how to go about it, although available, had some barriers to acquiring the knowledge and skills we needed for our organization to grow. As we looked around, we found that other smaller nonprofit charities were having similar challenges. So we decided to do something about it.

Formerly known as “Denver Gives”, we began utilizing the talent, knowledge and skills our young professionals’ group had to provide free monthly training and other learning sessions to small, local 501(c)(3) nonprofits in the Greater Denver Metro area. Other programs soon followed.

Not Everything Works, Even for the Teachers

In 2013, we as an organization began to struggle ourselves. In 2014, we were about ready to throw in the towel as funding for our organization and support for it became harder and harder to find. Then, our co-founder, Kevin J. White, in pursuit of his own entrepreneurial venture, found DenverStartup Week! Thinking about him and his business pursuits, that this event was the best thing since “sliced bread”, he wondered why this type of event was not in the nonprofit sector. Going to his remaining two board members, we asked for a commitment of one year. They agreed and in August of 2015, Denver Gives produced “DenverGivesWeek”, a week of free training and social events designed to meet the specific needs and challenges of small (under $1MM annual budget) and local (no national affiliation) 501(c)(3)’s in the Greater Denver Metro area, having over 100 nonprofit charities attend! That success was a game-changer and the desire to provide this week and other resources to small nonprofits around the United States moved Denver Gives into a new direction and a new name. The DoingGood.FOUNDATION, the charitable arm of DoingGood.ROCKS, was born!
